FAQ - How do I Upload via FTP?

As a "Hosting Only" customer how do I transfer my website files onto the netring.co.uk server?

As you are in control of all the files for your website, it is likely that you already have FTP software that enables you to access a remote server and up-load your files so that they can be viewed from your domain name.

If you do not have software, there is a range of free and premium FTP software available from download.com.

To access the server, netring.co.uk have allocated your domain name with a ftp host name
"ftp.your-domain.co.uk", a username and password. Your access is always through Port 21. Replace your-domain.co.uk with your domain name.

Before upload files to your website, check to see if the "Welcome Page" is showing for your domain name.

When logged in with FTP navigate to the /public_html directory. This is where you will need to place your files for them to be accessable to the internet-using public. Look for the index.htm file to ensure you are in the right directory.

Before adding your files delete the "Welcome Page" by deleting the existing "index.html" file plus the images in the image folder.

You can now upload your website files and then view them on the Internet.
